Most musculoskeletal disorders are chronic conditions; their management presents a number of challenges to GPs. The GP has a particular role in the long-term management of chronic pain and disability. GPs are also involved in life-saving procedures in patients who have suffered trauma, pre-hospital management of less serious trauma and in the post-hospital management of all types of patients.
